The White House issued an update to President Obama's fiscal year 2016 budget request that seeks additional cybersecurity funding for several agencies, including the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The updated budget request seeks $14 billion--an 11 percent increase from last year's budget--to bolster cybersecurity efforts.
The funding would support a Computer Security Incident Response Center; Federal Information Security Management Act program management; and trusted internet connection.
VA cybersecurity funding would see a 15.5 percent increase over FY 2015 to $180.3 million. The funds will help to ensure the agency's information and network security through continuity of operations; continuous secure monitoring; creating a program management office to address VA’s Continuous Readiness in Information Security Program; enhanced general system capabilities; maintenance of a Trusted Internet Connection initiative; and other smaller cybersecurity programs.
