Vt. theft affects 2K patients

The health data of about 2,000 patients has been compromised after burglers broke into the medical offices of a family medicine physician in Vermont.

Thieves stole computer devices from the office of Max Bayard, MD, in St. Albans, Vt. According to the notification posted on his website, his offices were broken into on Aug. 5. The stolen devices contained patient names, Social Security numbers and other treatment-related information.

It's possible, according to the announcement, that the stolen information included birth dates, Medicare/Medicaid enrollment information, treatment dates, types of treatment and diagnoses.
