Stolen laptop leads to Wisc. data breach

A stolen laptop is the source of a potential data breach impacting 400 patients of the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

The computer and a document were stolen from the college on Feb. 15, according to a WDJT report. It's not clear what information might have been compromised but apparently not Social Security numbers or addresses.

The Medical College of Wisconsin indicates no Social Security numbers or addresses were breached, according to the report, though it does not indicate what type of patient information may have been affected.

According to a statement provided to WDJT, the Medical College of Wisconsin said it has policies in place prohibiting downloading patient information to portable media and transporting documents containing such information, both of which were violated.
