Petya cyber-attack reaches American pharmaceutical company, hospitals
A second large-scale international cyber-attack has landed on U.S. soil in recent weeks. The Petya ransomware attack, which first attacked computer systems in Ukraine, has spread to hospitals and pharmaceutical companies in United States.
The ransomware attack occurred Tuesday, June 27, first affecting automated teller machines in Ukraine and the Danish shipping company Maersk. Before long, the attack spread to the American pharmaceutical company Merck and hospitals in Pennsylvania, where surgeries had to be canceled due to infected computers from Heritage Valley Health Systems.
