Model privacy practice notices available
Model Notices of Privacy Practices are available for healthcare providers and health plans to use to communicate with their patients and plan members.
Developed collaboratively by the Office of the National Coordinator of Health IT and the HHS Office for Civil Rights with input from consumers and key stakeholders, the model notices are provided in three different styles--booklet, layered notice with a summary on the first page and full content on following pages and a notice formatted for full-page presentation.
Health plans and covered healthcare providers are required by HIPAA to develop and distribute a notice that provides a clear, user-friendly explanations of these rights and practices. The model notices can help providers and plans reflect the Omnibus Rule changes and serve as a baseline for covered entities working to comply with those new requirements.
