Medtronic notifies patients of potential PHI breach
Medical device manufacturer Medtronic has notified 2,764 patients after a box of training records went missing at a facility in Minnesota.
The company believes the box, containing contact information, insurance information, limited patient records and possibly some Social Security numbers, is still on its premises but the possibility exists that it is gone, a spokesperson told the Pioneer Press. The patients were notified as a precaution.
Most of the documents and records in the box dated back to 2008 and were connected with training in the use of insulin pumps or continuous glucose monitoring devices. Medtronic is offering affected patients paid identity protection services.
