Indiana breach caused by stolen laptop

Another stolen laptop is the source of yet another data breach. A password-protected, unencrypted laptop was stolen from the care of an employee of Indiana University Health Arnett in Lafayette.

The organization learned of the theft on April 10 and immediately contacted the White County Sheriff’s Office and began an internal investigation. Emails stored on the laptop’s hard drive may have contained patient names, dates of birth, physicians’ names, medical record numbers, diagnoses and dates of service. The laptop did not contain Social Security numbers, financial information, or patients’ medical records.

Almost 10,000 patients are receiving notification of the breach.
