HHS's Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) has announced the winners of their Move Health Data Forward Challenge, which focused on the development of applications for secure sharing of patient health information and awarded winners $50,000.

Winners included:

• Foxhall Wythe: The development of Docket, a secure data storage and sharing platform, promotes the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and utilizes FHIT messages to share data through a Quick Response (QR) code scan and an OAuth 2.0 handshake.
• Live and Leave Well: The Live and Leave Well platform offers users the ability to share end-of-life plans by using a combination of open app interface, direct integration and OAuth 2.0 to secure patient data.

 “The final winners in the Move Health Data Forward challenge show us that electronic health information can truly be owned by patients and their family members,” said Don Rucker, MD, national coordinator for health information technology. “We expect these winning apps will open up new ways for Americans to own and manage their health information safely and securely.”
