Facebook photo is source of Arizona security breach
A Facebook photo that inadvertently captured a patient’s personal information was at the heart of a breach that took place at the University of Arizona Medical Center.
A woman was the victim of identity theft four months after a hospital employee posted the photo of something else on her workstation, according to an article in Green Valley News and Sun.
The photo, which visibly revealed woman’s name, address and Social Security number at the workstation, has since been taken down. The medical center notified the patient, disciplined the employee and retrained emergency department employees on privacy matters, according to the article.
The victim filed a police report after the Department of Economic Security informed her that someone used her personal information to qualify for food stamps.
“I don’t want anyone else to go through this kind of hell. This lady sent Facebook my information, Social Security number and address when she took a picture of something else and my information was on the computer screen right next to it,” the victim told Green Valley News and Sun.
