Could hackers set their sights on your medical device?
Hackers are best known for stealing patient data through computers, but they may have added an entirely new avenue to encroach on your privacy—by infiltrating medical devices.
The first public acknowledgment of a potential attack on a medical device came from Johnson & Johnson in regards to its insulin pump. The company said hackers may be able to use a security bug that gains control of the pump and could be used to administer insulin to overdose patients.
A Johnson & Johnson spokesman told NBC News that newer devices are encrypted with more security. He also said a hacker would have to be within 25 feet of the 12-year-old device to affect the signal.
