Conn. hospital reports data breach
A hard drive containing names, addresses, dates of birth, marital status, Social Security numbers and medical record numbers of MidState Medical Center patients has been misplaced, according to a notice posted on the Meriden, Conn. medical center’s website.
The 144-bed hospital learned the drive was missing on Feb. 15, the notice stated. The breach reportedly involves data on more than 93,000 patients. Not all of the patients being notified of the incident had Social Security numbers on the missing hard drive, according to MidState, which said it investigated the incident and notified law enforcement authorities.
“We have no reason to believe that any personal information has been misused as a result of this incident. MidState Medical Center and other affiliates of Hartford HealthCare are in the process of reviewing their policies and are taking steps to help ensure that this type of incident does not happen in the future,” the notice stated.
