Alliance Health breach affects 40,000 customers
A Salt Lake City-based company reported a data breach that left the information of 40,000 customers accessible on the internet for more than two years.
Alliance Health, a platform for individuals managing chronic health conditions, said it learned on Dec. 17 that a test database containing costumer information was inadvertently left exposed from July 2013 to December 2015. An internal investigation found that customers' names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, medications and some clinical information may have been included in the database. There were no Social Security numbers, credit card numbers or banking information included.
Alliance Health has secured the database and removed it from public view. The company said it has no indication any information has been misused but has enhanced its security measures and performed an extensive audit of all its databases.
