2,000 Piedmont HealthCare patients alerted to possible breach

North Carolina-based Piedmont Healthcare notified approximately 2,000 patients of a potential breach of their credit card information and other personal information, according to a May 16 Charlotte Observer story.

The notification stemmed from unauthorized access to servers of Piedmont HealthCare’s website hosting company, E-dreamz. Job application data, including Social Security numbers, also may have been accessed on these servers, according to the story. No medical information was compromised.

Piedmont HealthCare is planning to hire a new website hosting and will consult IT security professionals to ensure security of the new website. The FBI, North Carolina Attorney General's Office and credit reporting companies all were made aware of the incident.
