Trying to gauge AI's in healthcare fields

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a hot topic across medical fields, from handling information technology to its impact in imaging. In an interview with Forbes, Nuance Communications executive vice president and general manager Satish Maripuir discussed its potential to affect various areas in healthcare.

AI has improved dramatically over the years to pinpoint disease areas, predict the onset of infectious diseases and streamlining workflow but Maripuri believes this is just the tip of the iceberg.

“The impact AI will have on healthcare comes from a new and expanded use of AI-powered solutions, such as conversational virtual assistants combined with mobility. It’s in this area that you begin to see highly intelligent systems that can act in partnership with human intelligence in powerful ways,” Maripuir told Forbes. “What’s key here is that the interaction is natural and an integrated part of a physician’s regular workflow. That’s not only solving problems but opening avenues for improved diagnoses and treatments.”
