Reider joins personalized medicine startup
Former acting national health IT coordinator Jacob Reider, MD, has been hired by a Silicon Valley personalized medicine startup company. Reider will serve as chief strategy officer of Palo Alto, Calif.-based Kyron, a self-described “stealth” startup.
Reider, who left his job as deputy national coordinator and chief medical officer in the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) in October, will lead development of product vision and customer and partner relationships for Kyron. The company, founded in 2013 and backed by Khosla Ventures, is building technology to apply machine learning and deep analysis of medical data to support personalized medicine.
"We are very excited to have a true visionary join the team," Kyron Founder and CEO Louis Monier said in a press release. "Jacob is a well-respected creative thinker who recognizes the value of technology in reinventing patient care."
Reider served as acting national coordinator following the departure of Farzad Mostashari, MD, MSc, in September 2013 until current coordinator Karen DeSalvo, MD, MPH, MSc, took over in December 2013. He also chaired the Health IT Standards Committee during his tenure at ONC.
Previously, Reider was CMIO at EHR vendor Allscripts and medical director for clinical systems at CapitalCare Medical Group in Albany, N.Y.
