ChartSpan Achieves Patient Interoperability; Releases The First Interoperable Patient Healthcare App

GREENVILLE, S.C., Sept. 10, 2014--ChartSpan has developed the world's first, patient based, interoperable, consumer technology automating the conversion of ALL paper healthcare records into electronic healthcare records. Available today in the Apple App Store. ChartSpan is a free, secure, iOS app that allows you to request, organize, and send your family's health records (medical, dental, vision, immunizations, prescriptions) from a smartphone. The Android version will be released next month.

ChartSpan was built for patients, not doctors. It's simple, elegant and converts paper healthcare records to digital data, with no manual data entry. ChartSpan works by simply taking a picture of a healthcare record or importing it from email or electronic fax. Then, ChartSpan extracts the data and populates each user's electronic, personal database. Request records in less than :08 seconds. Manage records on your phone for your entire family.  You can search your records based on any keyword.

"Patients have waited for more than a decade for providers to deliver on the promise of "interoperability," said ChartSpan CEO & CoFounder Jon-Michial Carter. "We got tired of waiting and decided to build technology that would empower patients to manage their own electronic healthcare records. We are excited to disrupt healthcare, moving the balance of patient data into the hands of consumers."

Security is a critical piece of ChartSpan's technology. ChartSpan uses three layers of encryption for all data, at rest, and in flight. No third party can access any patients personally identifiable information in ChartSpan.

According to the CDC, 82% of adults and 93% of children under the age of 18 have had contact with a healthcare professional in the past year.  And 62% of adults have been to the doctor more than once in that same time. "For a majority of those patients, getting ubiquitous access to their records is a nightmare," said Carter. "One provider wants you to access their patient portal.  The next provider wants you to download their tethered EHR app that only works with their proprietary records system.  Frankly, most families are managing their healthcare records with manilla folders. Patients needed an easier and simpler way to manage healthcare records."
