Apple hires Google’s chief of search and AI

Apple has hired John Giannandrea, Google’s chief of search and artificial intelligence (AI), to run their machine learning and AI strategy, according to the New York Times.

“Our technology must be infused with the values we all hold dear,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. “John shares our commitment to privacy and our thoughtful approach as we make computers even smarter and more personal.”

Giannandrea previously held the title of chief technology officer at Metaweb then joined Google after the company was bought by the tech giant. Currently, Apple lacks the AI optimization in Siri seen in competitors like Amazon and Google.
