Vermont expanding Medicaid ACO program
Vermont OneCare, its accountable care organization (ACO) model for Medicaid beneficiaries, will expand to include Medicare patients and those covered by private insurance in 2018.
According to the Associated Press, about 120,000 people in the state could be covered once the expansion is implemented, up from the initial 30,000.
“This is the big transition step, this is part of a multi-year plan,” OneCare CEO Todd Moore said.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont will be involved, as a spokesman said its working on a plan design for its members which would begin Jan. 1, 2018. Nine of the state’s 14 hospitals are set to participate, according to OneCare, along with one in neighboring New Hampshire, along with 24 independent physician practices, eight home health agencies and six mental health and substance abuse agencies.
