HITECH ACT boosted EHR adoption in hospitals
A study published in Health Affairs tried to judge the effectiveness of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act of 2009 in getting more hospitals to implement electronic health record (EHR) systems. According to Julia Adler-Milstein, an associate professor at the University of Michigan, and her coauthors, it succeeded.
Among more than 4,200 eligible short-term acute care hospitals, the annual rate of EHR adoption increased from 3.2 percent before the law to 14.2 percent by 2015, directly correlating increased adoption with the HITECH ACT.
