Bringing telemedicine to addiction
Keeping people struggling with addiction on the path to treatment is difficult once they leave they a treatment center. But telemedicine is improving program adherence and sobriety rates.
Involving individuals in their own care is crucial in preventing relapse—and using telemedicine is a quick, cost-effective way of communicating with patients. Lisa Merconchini, a Florida-based clinical psychologist, developed a telemedicine platform that uses encrypted software to protect patients’s privacy.
“I think typically when they leave treatment they fall out of aftercare,” Merconchini said. “This allows them to stay engaged and follow aftercare.”
