Upgrading design of surgical center—with surgeons’ suggestions

Florida Hospital Carrollwood’s new surgical tower should please the surgeons working in it, since they offered input on its design.

The Tampa Bay Times reports the 100,000-square-foot facility—about 45,000 of which is new construction—will offer 11 surgical suites, eventually expanding to 12. Before the hospital broke ground on the $71 million project, the surgeons who will be utilizing the space were asked to make suggestions on how the suites were designed.

"We created a special room and mocked it up like a surgery room with table, ceiling mounted lights and more,"  Joe Johnson, Florida Hospital President and CEO, told the Times. "Then we invited them to give us their impression."

When drugs are on the FDA’s shortage list, outsourcing facilities can produce their own compounded versions. When the FDA removed tirzepatide from that list with no warning, it created a considerable amount of chaos both behind the scenes and in pharmacies all over the country.
