Medication adherence soars thanks to mobile apps

One key to staying healthy and out of the hospital, whether dealing with a chronic condition or a simple ear infection, is taking medication as prescribed. Yet only half of American adults dutifully refill and take prescriptions as directed.

With the introduction of smart technologies, medication adherence is hitting an all-time high. Patients now have access to countless pharmacy apps and smart pill dispensers that remind patients when to fill prescriptions and when to take them. These high rates of medication adherence are keeping patients out of the hospital, living healthier lives and saving patients and physicians billions of dollars.
