The obesity epidemic in the U.S. is far from breaking news, but one medical expert thinks the healthcare industry is contributing to the expanding waistlines.
Bruce Lee, associate professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and executive director of the Global Obesity Prevention Center, wrote in Time magazine that instead of helping us lead healthier lives, the healthcare industry keeps us growing.
Lee recounts how the healthcare system has failed in fighting off the pounds. He explains that the system has failed in prioritizing prevention, incentive programs don’t work and a lack of medical education have all lead to an increase in the nation's body mass index.
