‘Simple choice plans’ will be available for 2017 exchange customers

Insurance coverage with standardized deductibles, out-of-pocket spending limits and co-pays will be available during the next open enrollment period for health insurance marketplaces, according to Kaiser Health News.

The goal is to make it easier for customers to compare plans.

While insurers aren’t required to offer these plans, CMS has provided guidelines for six new designs: one each at the bronze, silver and gold levels, and then another three more silver-level options for customers who qualify for cost-sharing reductions.

The guideline for the simple choice silver plan said the deductible would be fixed at $3,500 with a maximum out-of-pocket limit of $7,100. Copays would be fixed at $30 for primary care visits, $65 for specialist visits and $75 to visit an urgent care facility.
