VA tops 2 million telehealth visits, looks to expand programs
To help meet the needs of its patients, the Department of Veterans Affairs is expanding their telehealth program, offering more home options for those in rural and underserved communities.
The VA will be expanding telehealth in the following categories: Clinical video telehealth, home telehealth and store-and-forward telehealth. They will be delivering services in 50 specialties.
In 2015, the VA had more than 2.14 million telehealth visits, reaching 12 percent of all veterans while reducing hospital bed days by 58 percent, some of the reasons it's confident that expanding the program is a good move.
