Study: Emerging countries leading developed nations in connected device adoption
Nations such as South Africa and the United Arab Emirates are beating out countries like the U.S., China, and Germany when it comes to adopting connected health technology devices, while the developed nations have greater access to care, according to a new study released by Phillips.
Called the Future Health Index, the study asked healthcare professionals and patients in 13 different countries on perceptions and behaviors in three areas: access to care, health system integration and adoption of connected healthcare technology.
While 76 percent of professionals in developed countries felt their patients had access to needed care, only 58 percent in emerging markets said the same. When it came to device adoption, emerging markets led the way.
Understanding of the technology appeared to be low among patients of all age groups. Only 25 percent of patients between 18 and 34 said they felt knowledgeable about connected care devices, a number which shrinks to 14 percent among patients above the age of 55.
