McGraw heading to HHS OCR
Deven McGraw, JD MPH, has been named deputy director for health information privacy at the Department of Health and Human Services' Office for Civil Rights (OCR), effective June 29.
In her new role, McGraw will lead OCR’s policy, enforcement and outreach efforts for the HIPAA privacy, security and breach notification rules and lead OCR’s work on presidential and departmental priorities on health privacy and security, according to an announcement from the OCR.
McGraw has served as a member of the Health IT Policy Committee, most recently chairing the Privacy and Security Workgroup as well as being a member of the Meaningful Use Workgroup. Most recently, McGraw was a partner at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, where she co-chaired the firm’s privacy and data security practice. She also previously served as the director of the Health Privacy Project at the Center for Democracy & Technology, a leading consumer voice on health privacy and security policy issues, and as COO at the National Partnership for Women & Families, where she provided strategic leadership and substantive policy expertise for the partnership’s health policy agenda.
