Cellphone theft cause of N.Y. data breach
The theft of an unencrypted cellphone from a manager at Albany, N.Y.-based St. Peter’s Health Partners is creating cause for concern of a possible data breach into its email system.
Emails on the phone may have included patient information related to appointments scheduled between August and November 2014, reports Times Union.
The emails did not contain medical record information or data regarding inpatient hospital treatment or emergency department care. There is no sign that the emails have been accessed or viewed, according to officials at the health system.
Several corrective actions have been put in place following the incident, including a review of all mobile devices networked to the corporate email system, according to the article.
