Indiana unveils website to compare hospital pricing and quality
The Indiana Hospital Association has launched a website that allows consumers to browse charges and quality ratings for hospitals in the state.
The free site, mycareINsight.org, displays hospital charge data for the 100 most common Indiana inpatient services, as well as quality measures data such as patient satisfaction, mortalities, readmissions, early elective deliveries and infections, according to a press release.
MycareINsight.org will not contain hospital data from private insurance companies, which negotiate payment rates with hospitals and garner discounts for higher volumes.
“The confusion over healthcare pricing has gone on for too long, while the release of huge amounts of medical data by the federal government has done little to help consumers,” said Douglas Leonard, president of the Indiana Hospital Association, in a statement. The site “could clear up some of the confusion by making price and quality data available to the public so [Indiana residents] can make a more fully informed decision about their healthcare.”
