CIO survey reveals top priorities

Meaningful Use Stage 2 takes up a lot of CIOs' time, according to an annual end-of-year survey of CIOs conducted by executive search firm SSI-SEARCH.

More than half (55 percent) named the incentive program as the task taking up the most of their time, which tied with EHR optimization and was followed by analytics initiatives at 43 percent.

When asked to name the most important capability needed to meet the challenge of their role now and in the future, 46 percent said data analytics, followed by clinical expertise at 22 percent.

The firm also asked participants for the areas their health system perceives as critical. EHR optimization was the leader at 66 percent, following by analytics initiatives and population health, both at 63 percent, and Stage 2 at 59 percent.
