Walgreens deploys large-scale EHR system

Walgreens has completed a rollout of its EHR solution, offering pharmacy staff at its 8,200 locations a single reference point for patient information.

The EHR allows pharmacists to identify opportunities to close gaps in care and share patient information with other healthcare organizations, according to the retailer.

“Having a chain-wide EHR platform enhances our pharmacists’ ability to provide individualized immunization and health testing recommendations, which is key to closing gaps in patient care that exist today,” said Tim Theriault, Walgreens senior vice president, chief information, innovation and improvement officer, in a statement.

The single EHR will link a total of 27,000 pharmacists. Walgreens estimates that it will process 20,000 patient encounters per hour.
