Todd Park to step down as CTO

Todd Park will step down as U.S. chief technology officer (CTO) by the end of 2014, according to several news sources.

Although he will leave the post, he is expected to continue working for the White House—but in a different capacity. In his new role, he will recruit tech talent from Silicon Valley to fill government positions.

Park, who founded health IT firms athenahealth and Castlight Health, joined the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) as CTO in 2009. He transitioned over to the White House as the federal CTO in 2012, becoming the second person ever to assume the role.

During his tenure, Park worked on the rollout of HealthCare.gov, participated in releasing HHS data for public and private healthcare stakeholders, and worked to implement open source and API efforts, according to news sources.

The White House is anticipated to make a formal announcement about Park’s departure this week.
