Cerner, Spacelabs Integrate to Create Better Connectivity
NOQUALMIE, Wash.--CareAware(R), Cerner’s connectivity platform, and Spacelabs established a new benchmark in open system architecture, to streamline the clinical workflow for monitored patients. CareAware solutions provide a comprehensive strategy for robust medical device integration, alarm management and mobile-enabled care team communication. Spacelabs XprezzNet is a highly efficient network interface that allows Spacelabs monitoring products to communicate with CareAware.
The Cerner and Spacelabs strategic relationship enhances patient safety by eliminating duplicate patient identification numbers, associating/disassociating from a monitoring device with the EHR, and automatically discharging patients without having to touch the monitor. Connecting the Spacelabs monitor to CareAware offers clients the opportunity to:
- Use a single, bidirectional (Patient to Device Association) communication stream to improve efficiencies and workflow access across the continuum
- See near real-time patient information with automatic updates within the patient’s chart
When nurses connect the monitoring device to the patient, patient health information (PHI) is displayed on the device. The PHI that is displayed on the monitoring device is determined by the policies of each client, however, all data is cleared from the device when it is disassociated. This eliminates potential errors created by assigning patient data to another patient’s record.
“Through a strong relationship with Cerner, we have created an unprecedented system that will streamline clinical workflow and provide more time for individual patient care,” said Spacelabs President, Nicholas Ong. “This is a new benchmark in open-system architecture because of its capabilities, efficiencies and scalability to support networks of all sizes.”
This integration will be featured at the 2014 AACN’s National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition in the Spacelabs booth (1319).
