Nearly half of U.S. hospitals use clinical and business intel solutions

Approximately 46 percent of U.S. hospitals use clinical and business intelligence solutions (C&BI), according to HIMSS Analytics’ recent industry report, 2013 U.S. Clinical & Business Intelligence Study.

The report, which incorporates Voice of Customer insight from over 500 hospitals on market adoption, market share, market opportunity and vendor mind share, found that:

  • More than 50 percent of hospitals that use a C&BI solution indicated that the primary source of the C&BI was embedded within their health IT or EMR systems;
  • Enterprise data warehouses are the most widely used platform for storing/pulling C&BI data; fewer organizations have adopted operational data stores or transactional systems; and
  • Respondents said they are less inclined to purchase the best C&BI solution due to satisfaction with current tools in place

“Our findings indicate that the current focus in the marketplace is on managing, extracting and analyzing data via embedded tools within organizations’ HIS/EMR solutions,” Brendan FitzGerald, HIMSS analytics research director, said in a statement.
