2013 Data Design Diabetes Innovation Challenge finalists announced
Sanofi has selected five finalists for its 2013 Data Design Diabetes Innovation Challenge, which will reward $100,000 to the team that develops the greatest innovative, data-driven design to improve diabetes health outcomes in the United States, according to its website. The winning team will receive the prize money at the Health Datapalooza IV in Washington, D.C. on June 4.
The challenge called on entrepreneurs, data scientists, academics and designers to develop concepts that demonstrate in an evidence-based way an ability to improve outcomes, provide data-driven tools to healthcare providers, and that can be used in decision-making at a particular stage across the spectrum of type 1 or type 2 diabetes. About the team finalists:
- Allazo Health developed AllazoEngine, which targets medication non-adherence. The tool would both predict which patients will not take their medications and offer the most effective interventions to improve compliance.
- Connect & Coach is a hybrid clinical and consumer application for registered dieticians and certified diabetes educators to perform diabetes self-management education and medical nutrition therapy services in the community.
- GoCap - Insulin Dose Tracking Pen Cap is a replacement pen cap for prefilled insulin pens that can read dose amounts and times, and communicate wirelessly via Bluetooth to a mobile phone or connected glucometer.
- MediSapien Diabetic Clinical Data Repository, a web-based platform, converts isolated silos of unstructured data into fully-coded structured data for case management, pharmaceutical studies, biosurveillance, trend analysis and academic research and is highly customizable for diabetes management.
- Nudoro provides meal recommendations for customers that suit their tastes, lifestyle and particular nutritional needs.
