Prize series aims to harness big data
A new prize series aims to help healthcare organizations use big data more effectively to drive improvements.
The Heritage Provider Network (HPN), The Advisory Board Company and the Bipartisan Policy Center have launched the Care Transformation prize series, a national contest to help tackle the most daunting data problems facing healthcare organizations as they implement new delivery system and payment reforms.
Analytics could help providers better identify interventions and assess costs and outcomes among other efforts, but most providers have little epxertise on how to leverage and analyze clinical data sets. The prize series is issuing a call for the most pressing challenges and then a prize board will determine which one a team of data scientists will tackle. The board will focus on three criteria: impact; focused nature of the solution; and availability of data to solve the problem.
Prizes will be awarded to the teams that develop the best solutions and the winning algorithms will be made publicly available.
