Open patient network gets grant
Patient-centered health received a boost from a $1.9 million grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) to PatientsLikeMe, an open network in which nearly 200,000 patients document their experiences with diseases for outcomes research.
PatientsLikeMe patients’ contributions enable the development of patient-centered health outcome measures that allow researchers to pilot, deploy, share and validate new ways to measure diseases, according to a release. Access to the PatientsLikeMe network and platform tools is free.
In the past, development of health outcome measures was solely the realm of clinicians and researchers. The PatientsLikeMe platform allows researchers to recruit patients to their studies, test measurements and export data for analysis. Patients will provide feedback to ensure the measures are relevant to their experience.
