HHS awards online tool that helps track public health concerns
MappyHealth was the winning submission of a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) developers’ challenge that was launched after public health officials expressed interest in an accessible tool for social media monitoring, according to a Sept. 13 statement.
One of 33 submissions, the tool gathers Tweets that mention diseases and allows public health officials and others to search through its collection according to condition and location.
The team that developed MappyHealth included nursing informatics specialist Brian Norris of Indianapolis, Charles Boicey of Orange County, Calif., and information systems specialist Mark Silverberg of Washington, D.C.
The social media monitoring tool is available at MappyHealth.com.
