AHIMA unveils interactive health IT career mapping tool
In the increasingly vast health IT landscape, it can be difficult to determine what jobs are available where. That’s why the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) developed a web-based, visualization of existing and emerging positions in the field.
“The career map is a resource tool that will help students, recent graduates and health IT professionals looking for new opportunities to plan a path to success,” AHIMA CEO Lynne Thomas Gordon, MBA, said in a July 26 statement. “Not only is it a one-stop place to learn about health IT careers, it defines the profession like never before by showing where the field is now and where it is heading.
The map charts positions according to their skill levels and categorization: compliance, education, informatics, IT, administration or coding and billing. Positions are marked as current or emerging, mousing over their icons provide a description and clicking their icons shows possible career paths. Another feature shows preset paths traversing the six categories. Emerging positions include chief knowledge officer, meaningful use specialist and vice president of privacy and security.
