VA grants Harris $19M to create wireless network

Communications and IT company Harris has been awarded a two-year, $19 million contract by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Information and Technology to create a wireless network infrastructure for its medical centers nationwide.

The Melbourne, Fla.-based company said it is tasked with designing, installing, validating and providing training for a secure wireless infrastructure to accommodate the voice, video and real-time-location services for mobility. With the options tested, Harris will deploy the infrastructure to 26 customer sites.

The Harris team includes subcontractors Advanced Management Strategies Group, Synaptek and TL Services. The contract was awarded under the VA's Transformation 21 Total Technology contract vehicle.
