AHIMA establishes new Grace award
The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) has established a new award to recognize outstanding and innovative approaches to health information management (HIM).
Named for AHIMA founder Grace Whiting Myers, the AHIMA Grace Award: In Recognition of Excellence in Health Information Management will honor healthcare delivery organizations that demonstrate effective and innovative approaches in using health information to deliver high quality healthcare. The inaugural award will be presented at the 84th AHIMA Annual Convention & Exhibit in Chicago Sept. 29-Oct. 4.
Evaluation criteria include how organizations contribute to a patient-centered model of care, advance EHRs and integrate HIM throughout the workplace. Award judges will include a panel representing healthcare delivery organizations, health information professionals and HIM associations including AHIMA. Whiting Myers created the organization in 1928 in partnership with the American College of Surgeons who wanted to "elevate the standards of clinical records in hospitals and other medical institutions."
More information is available on AHIMA's website.
