ECRI picks technology watch list for 2012
EMRs, robotic surgery and transcatheter heart valve implantation rank among the technologies that ECRI Institute is urging hospital executives to keep an eye on in 2012.
The list of 10 “watch list”-worthy technologies, laid out in a 32-page ECRI report released Jan. 3, also named:
The section on EMRs offers a reminder that medical device integration and meaningful use “ultimately aim to improve healthcare and patient safety. Successful deployment should not only ensure reimbursement, but also enhance patient safety and quality of care, facilitate nursing workflow and increase physician and nursing satisfaction.”
In coming up with the list, ECRI took into account the converging pressures healthcare executives must face on the patient safety, economic and regulatory fronts. The organization also drew from the comparative effectiveness and health technology assessment work of its Evidence-based Practice Center.
The list follows ECRI’s November 2011 flagging of 10 technology hazards to watch for in 2012.
