HIMSS: Record-breaking turnout closes in on 31k

ORLANDO, Fla.-- With more than a day left to go, attendance at the 2011 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference broke a record, hitting 30,947, according to the Chicago-based nonprofit organization. By comparison, there were an estimated total of 27,800 attendees at the 2010 event, according to a statement from H. Stephen Lieber, CAE, president and CEO of HIMSS.

"The success of HIMSS11 reflects a broader understanding of the important benefits of healthcare IT, and the readiness of these technologies to be implemented immediately. It also reflects the hard work of many dedicated individuals--including elected officials, healthcare practitioners, IT product developers and my colleagues at HIMSS--on an ongoing basis," Lieber stated.

This year’s conference features more than 400 education sessions and more than 1,000 exhibiting companies and organizations.
