Michigan HIE links up with Optum for next phase
Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (MiHIN), the state designated health information exchange (HIE) for Michigan, has engaged OptumInsight and its Axolotl HIE platform from Optum to implement phase one of the MiHIN strategic and operational plan.
“Our state has been ... promoting the pervasive distribution of qualified sub-state organizations capable of supporting secure data exchange among emergency departments, hospitals, physician offices and other healthcare settings across Michigan’s 83 counties," said Tim Pletcher, MiHIN's executive director. "MiHIN’s work will now create that focal point for integration that ties each of these regional or sub-state efforts together.”
The MiHIN phase one initial activities focus on streamlining public health reporting for immunizations, disease surveillance and set the stage for exchange of structured data such as care summaries to support transitions of care.
The selection was based on the recommendation of a MiHIN RFP [request-for-proposal] committee formed last spring comprised of a multi-stakeholder group of veteran health IT and health exchange experts across Michigan, chaired by Richard Warren, vice president of information services and CIO at Allegiance Health and MiHIN board member.
