CEO of biomedical testing company resigns abruptly
S. Wayne Kay, CEO of the Vancouver, B.C.-based Response Biomedical, a publicly traded manufacturer of equipment for clinical and environmental testing, has stepped down. Peter Thompson will serve as interim CEO while Response’s board of directors oversees a search firm brought in to recruit a new CEO “as quickly as possible,” according to a press release announcing the transition.
The release offered no further details.
Last week the company reported a strong first half of 2011, noting a 38 percent increase in total revenues (to $5.2 million) and a decrease in operating expenses of 34 percent, according to the Financial Post.
In hospitals, Response may be best known for its Ramp system used for the early detection of heart attack and congestive heart failure, and distributed by Roche and Shionogi.
According to Forbes.com, Kay is 60 years old, has led Response Biomedical since 2007, and earned $414,095 in salary and other compensation in 2010.
“The numerous contributions made by S. Wayne Kay during his tenure at Response are much appreciated by the board,” said Thompson in the release.
