Symantec, Allscripts debut security risk assessment tool
Symantec and Allscripts have unveiled Allscripts Privacy & Security Risk Assessment, a web-based tool that automates the paper-based process of assessing a medical practice’s privacy and security risks.
Developed by Symantec and available through Allscripts, the tool combines Symantec’s security and privacy technology with Allscripts’ EHR technology. It provides a way for physicians to demonstrate that they meet HIPAA security requirements, stated Symantec, of Mountain View, Calif.
The web-based application will provide a review of administrative, technical and physical safeguards as defined by HIPAA. Allscripts Privacy & Security Risk Assessment also produces reports when a practice completes its assessment, including identifying potential gaps and providing recommendations for complying with HIPAA rules and HITECH, Symantec added.
