KLAS ranks medical equipment vendors for 2011

As part of its annual evaluations of U.S. healthcare vendors, KLAS named Toshiba America Medical Systems the best overall medical equipment vendor for 2011, closely followed by Fujifilm Medical Systems and Hitachi Medical Systems.

The market research firm evaulated automated medication dispensing units, computed radiography and CT, digital x-ray, MRI, mammography, radiation therapy, smart pumps, ultrasound and wireless communciations in the report titled 2011 Top 20 Best in KLAS Awards: Medical Equipment & Infrastructure.

KLAS' recent report considered 193 medical equipment products and seven infrastructure products based on 4,271 evaluations by providers, according to the research firm. Within the 12-month evaluation period, the highest performing market segment in medical equipment was digital mammography, according to the firm, the lowest was smart pumps for large volume infusions.

KLAS ranked the following products as Best in KLAS for their categories.
  • Automated Medication Dispensing Units (Over 200 Beds): Omnicell's OmniRx
  • CR, multi-plate: Konica Minolta's Xpress/IQue Dual Bay
  • CT, 64-slice: Toshiba's Aquilon One
  • Digital x-ray: Shimadzu Medial Systems' RADspeed
  • MRI, 3.0T: Siemens Healthcare's Magnetom Verio
  • MRI, 1.5T: Toshiba's Vantage
  • Mammography, digital: Hologic's Selenia
  • Radiation theraphy: Elekta's Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion
  • Smart pumps, large volume infusions: Baxter HealthCare's Sigma Spectrum
  • Ultrasound, general imaging: GE Healthcare's Logiq E9
  • Ultrasound, cardiovascular: Tie between GE's Vivid E9 and Toshiba's Aplio (CV Application)
  • Wireless Communication: Cisco's 7900 Series

KLAS ranked Toshiba best medical equipment vendor with an overall score of 89.2, followed closely by Fujifilm, with a score of 88.3, and Hitachi, with a score of 87.3.
