CONNECT 3.2 HIE software gets scalability boost

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT's Federal Health Architecture Program (FHA) has released CONNECT 3.2, an update to its open source software platform.

Version 3.2, the FHA's latest version of open source software for health information exchange (HIE), includes features that make it possible for the software to scale to the needs of even the largest healthcare providers throughout the country, according to the FHA.

Headlining the changes to 3.2 are two major features:

  1. Multiple Assigning Authority. By now supporting multiple assigning authority, CONNECT makes it possible for each facility within an organization to be treated as its own entity and assigning authority, so patients records can be effectively located.
  2. Deferred Services (Deferred Patient Discovery, Deferred Query for Documents, Deferred Retrieve Documents): CONNECT 3.2 fully supports deferred services, including patient discovery, query for documents and retrieve documents, the FHA stated.
