Implant device registry service aims to enhance patient safety

MedicAlert Foundation and Champion Medical Technologies have unveiled MedicAlert Implant Connect, a service for patients with implanted medical devices that stores and links patients to information about their implanted devices.

When patients enroll in the MedicAlert Implant Connect registry service, information about their implanted device(s) is available. Combined with MedicAlert Foundation’s live 24/7 emergency response service, which provides access to patient medical information, Implant Connect will help to improve patient care in multiple scenarios, including medical emergencies and revision surgery, the company said.

In addition, Implant Connect can track patients and their devices when there is a medical device product recall or some other issue related to an implanted device. In medical emergencies, Implant Connect ensures that information on the nature and type of device is available to first responders and emergency department staff for use in treatment decisions.

The Implant Connect service was launched at the National Patient Safety Foundation’s Patient Safety Congress in Washington, D.C., on May 26.
