Siemens appoints Overhage as CMIO

Siemens Healthcare has appointed J. Marc Overhage, MD, PhD, as chief medical informatics officer (CMIO) of its health services business unit.

One of the architects of the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE), Overhage recently served as president and CEO of the nonprofit IHIE. In his role at Siemens, he will be responsible for clinical informatics activities and guiding long-term product strategies.

With more than 25 years in clinical practice and medical informatics experience, Overhage has worked on clinical systems development, including clinical decision support EMRs, and has been recognized with a Davies Award of Excellence. Most recently, he served as the director of medical informatics at Regenstrief Institute in Indianapolis, and is a professor of medicine and medical informatics at the Indiana School of Medicine. He also is a member of National Quality Forum, the HIT Standards Committee at the Department of Health and Human Services and a board member of the Indiana Health Informatics.

His appointment begins on March 28, 2011.
